• Grading and Work Policies

    • In Mrs. Contreras' class, grades will be based on a variety of assignments including classwork, participation and formal and informal assessments. Grading is standards-based and letter grades will be based 70% on assessments and 30% on daily work.

    • All assessments are based on class work and instruction. Students that do not pass an assessment will be given multiple opportunities to take the test again for a better score, if they meet the requirements.

    • There will rarely be assigned homework. Any homework on a daily basis will be unfinished class work. Students who do not finish their class work in the allotted time in class will be expected to finish it at home that evening. It will be due the very next school day.

    • There will be occasional research projects that will require at home assistance and work. Your student will bring home directions for any research projects.

    • Class work, while only 30% of the total grade, is essential to prepare for assessments. Class work is designed from instruction and the Common Core national standards. All assessments are created around class work and instruction.

    • Any class work not finished in class that day will come home. It should be returned by the next school day. Until the work is completed and turned in, it will be given a zero in the grade book and marked as incomplete. Students have until the last Friday before the end of the quarter to complete any missing assignments and have it still count for that quarter's report card.

    • Students that miss assessments due to illness or school-day vacations are responsible for making arrangements with the teacher in order to make-up the missed assessment.

    • Students will be responsible for bringing their binder and text books home and back to school every day. Students without these items every day will be considered unprepared and will have a consequence. Students will be expected to keep their lockers and binders tidy.
