• Strong School Library Programs

St. Helens High School Library and Media Center is the academic focal point for information, ideas and technological resources for a strong school library program. We are the facilitators for effective use of technology and digital resources for promoting the success of our students.

The impact of strong school library programs is linked to overall higher student achievement and technology readiness.

The following are informational links on literacy and technology instruction.

"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world."
    (David Warlick)
The OASL on Strong School Library Programs outlined two school library indicators.
      1. The district provides all students and staff in each school with equitable access to a comprehensive library program which provides instruction in information literacy and research proficiencies, promotes integration of digital learning resources, advances reading engagement, and creates collaborative learning opportunities with teachers. (DTL5.5)
      2. The district ensures that all students and staff in each school have equitable access to a professionally-developed and well-managed school library collection of current and diverse print and electronic resources that supports teaching and learning, college and career readiness, and reading engagement. (DTL5.6)
