ODE Report Cards
Dear Parents and Community Members,
The St. Helens School district believes that a child’s success should not be determined by their race, religion, nationality, or social economic status. As a district, we are proud of the fact that our students score above the state average in multiple categories, yet we are not satisfied with the average. Together, innovative teachers, dedicated staff members, and involved parents are working toward our district’s vision of Exceptionally Educated Students by the Most Skilled and Highly Compassionate Staff.
The Smarter Balanced Assessment in mathematics and literacy with the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills for science provides only a glimpse of the skills an exceptionally educated student should demonstrate. The Federal Government and the State of Oregon recognize this fact and will be moving toward a more comprehensive assessment system within the next few years. As a result of this shift in philosophy, the St. Helens School District is reinvesting in best practices around classroom assessment to inform teaching and learning rather than a continued focus on standardized tests. The early results and gains we are realizing from this investment are promising.
As a district, we thank our community for its continuing support. To learn more about St. Helens School District 502 and the comprehensive education opportunities provided by our exceptional schools, please visit www.sthelens.k12.or.us or contact your school.
Thank you,
Superintendent Stockwell
