SHSD 502 Information Technology Department
The St. Helens School District technology department maintains nearly 1300 networked computers located across nine locations. All district staff have access to email and state educational resources. Numerous computer labs throughout the district allow students filtered access to the internet for research as well as workstations for word processing and computer literacy development. Our infrastructure is a basic 1000 Base-T Ethernet network with fiber backbone segments strategically located. We make extensive use of donated hardware and software. Most recently we have deployed wireless technology, several new student computer labs and instructional technologies such as interactive whiteboards, document cameras and multimedia projectors in numerous classrooms across the district. We share bandwidth between phone systems and internet connectivity via existing data lines which directly saves taxpayer dollars. In addition, we receive E-Rate discounts on much of our connectivity costs as a result of Senate Bill 622. The technology department prides itself on providing the best tools for the least taxpayer cost!
