Speech and Language Department
The St. Helens School District Speech and Language Team provide special education supports and services for individuals who meet eligibility requirements as a student with a disability in one or more of the following areas:
- Syntax, Morphology, Semantics or Pragmatics
- Voice
- Fluency
- Phonology or Articulation Disorder
Based on the student’s individual needs, services are provided in a variety of formats:
- Direct Instruction/Therapy by the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), in person and virtually
- Direct Instruction/Therapy provided by the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)
- Direct Instruction/Therapy provided by a combination of the SLP and SLPA, in person and virtually
- Related Service provided by the SLP
- Consultation to classroom teachers by the SLP
Following state and federal guidelines, our staff meets the highest qualifications and licensure necessary to provide these supports and services to students. Our Speech-Language Pathologists are accredited by American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and hold licenses through the State of Oregon Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Our Speech-Language Pathology Assistants hold licenses through the State of Oregon Board of Examiners of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
