RISE Afterschool Program

Since 2018, the City of St. Helens and the St. Helens School District have partnered to launch and support a Recreation Program for the St. Helens community.

This collaborative effort was designed to provide families with a central place to find free or low-cost recreational activities available in our area. From sports and arts to nature walks and reading programs, this program has helped connect community members with meaningful, engaging opportunities to learn, play, and grow.

We’re proud of what this partnership has brought to the St. Helens community and are excited to announce another great opportunity!

We are excited to introduce our first cohort for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CLCC) Grant. Welcome to the RISE Afterschool Program!

RISE (or "Reinforcing Ideas for Success in Enrichment") is a free afterschool program for students attending Columbia City Elementary, Lewis & Clark Elementary, and McBride Elementary schools. It will focus on academic performance, enrichment, community, and connection.

Each session will run for 8 weeks, followed by a week off with a chance to sign up for the next session. The first RISE cohort starts on September 8th and runs after school until 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. This program is for youth entering 1st through 5th grades. If needed, participants can sign up for transportation home from the program at the beginning of the program.

Please note: We may open Kindergarten spots later in the year. Please email sduggan@sthelensoregon.gov if you'd like to be put on the waitlist.

If families are needing more of an extended afterschool care program, there is also another option through our S.H.A.R.P. (St. Helens Afterschool Recreation Program). This is a fee-based program and is open every day school is in session.
