What unprecedented times we are in. Hopefully this email finds you all safe and well. If you haven't heard yet, St. Helens School District, along with the rest of the state, is preparing for at-home learning. At this point, it is supplemental, meaning it supports learning that your student has already done. If that changes, we will let you know. The expectation at this time is that your 6th grader is working on 1 hour a week per core subject. This work will be rolled out beginning this Friday, April 3rd. That may change, but for now, this is the goal. The state is changing their requirements daily, and we are doing our best to keep up. Please be patient.
As the homeroom "Focus" teacher for your 6th grader at St. Helens Middle School, I will be calling each household starting this afternoon, Wednesday, April 1. I may not get to all of you today. I have some survey questions I will be asking on behalf of the district, but I am also calling to check in with you and your 6th grader. The phone number I am calling from will come across and "unknown". If you are unable to talk, I will leave a voicemail. My return number is 503-366-7347. You can leave me a voicemail at that number and I'll call you back. If you have other students in St Helens School District, you may be receiving phone calls from their homeroom teachers. It would be very helpful if you took the time to speak to each of us and answer the survey questions for each of your students.
Starting next Tuesday, April 7, I will have office hours.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work together to do our best for your student during this unusual time.
Welcome to St. Helens Middle School, room 207, for the 2019-2020 school year! I am a 6th grade teacher in my 16th year in St. Helens and my 18th year as a teacher. This is my first year at SHMS, and I am looking forward to a wonderful school year. I am excited to be teaching Humanities on the 6B team.
I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and now 6th grades in Ashland, Burns and St. Helens. With my wife Stacy, I enjoy exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest and especially the wonder of Columbia County and the Portland Metropolitan area.
The rest of my team includes Mr. Seay for science and Mrs. Snook for math. Check out their pages for more information.
