Primary Social Emotional Learning Center
Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Emily Yarnell
My Name is Emily Wirsig Yarnell. I am a native of Beaverton, Oregon and have only lived outside of Oregon while completing my undergraduate education. The four years I spent at Whittier College in Whittier, California was the first time I had ever moved in my life. Upon completing my undergraduate education, I had less than one month of “summer vacation” before I began my Masters in Arts of Teaching Program at George Fox University. I completed my MAT program in one year, and then I took some time to enjoy being done with school.
In 2012 I had been subbing as a teacher and instructional assistant in several districts and was lucky to find a 4-month long term substitute position as an instructional assistant at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in St. Helens, Oregon. I fell in love with the school and the Social Emotional Learning Center and wanted to find a way to be there permanently. Unfortunately for me there were no openings at the time. Finally, in the fall of 2013 I was lucky enough to be hired to work in that program and spent 4 years working as an Instructional Assistant in the social Emotional Learning Center before the program was split into a Primary Social Emotional Learning Center and an Intermediate Social Emotional Learning Center. At that time I became the head teacher for the Primary Social Emotional Learning Center.
Outside of teaching, my interests include reading, watching movies, spending time with my family and traveling. In my life I have been fortunate enough to travel to 12 different states, 8 countries, and 3 continents. It is my goal to make it to all 7 continents-even Antarctica! One of the most beautiful places I have been was to the US Virgin Islands for my honeymoon. The picture on my page is from a Zip Lining adventure on the island of St. Thomas.
