St. Helens Middle School Public Safety Message 1.12.2023

The St. Helens School District is dedicated to maintaining a strong partnership with parents in our effort to provide the very best education for our students. The key to that partnership is open communication.

The following email is an effort to inform parents that a SHMS student chose to prank call 911 today and while on the call, the student made a threat of harm toward the school. Whenever a threat is made, the administrative team starts the threat assessment process, working with local law enforcement and the family to determine the viability of the threat and the next steps that need to be taken. At this time, local law enforcement and the SHMS Administrative team have determined this is not a viable threat but a prank made by the student.

We take safety very seriously at St. Helens Middle School and will not tolerate any kind of threat of violence on our campus. Our first priority is the safety of our students and staff, which is why the St. Helens School District and local first responders partner together to ensure that safety is always at the forefront. We want to thank the 911 dispatchers and staff for quickly following the protocols set in place for such events to ensure the safety of everyone involved and local law enforcement for their quick response, thorough investigation, and commitment to student safety.
