The St. Helens School District is dedicated to maintaining a strong partnership with parents in our effort to provide the very best education for our students. The key to that partnership is open communication.
The following email is an effort to inform families that the St. Helens Middle School Administrative team was made aware of a verbal threat that was then shared by other students through text message. Upon notification, the School Administrative Team contacted local law enforcement, who responded to the building before the start of the school day to start their investigation with the student in question. The student has remained with the School Administrative Team and local law enforcement since arriving at school, and law enforcement has determined that the student in question did not have a weapon.
Whenever a threat is made, the School Administrative Team begins the threat assessment process, working in collaboration with local law enforcement and the family to determine the viability of the threat and the next steps that need to be taken. At this time, our local law enforcement partners are completing their investigation and will work with the School Administrative Team to discuss their findings and next steps. The safety of our students and staff is and will always be our first priority. We want to thank the parents and students who came forward to report the incident, the staff for quickly following the protocols set in place for such events to ensure the safety of everyone involved, and local law enforcement for their quick response, thorough investigation, and commitment to student safety.
